Daniel J. and Mary Agnes Mattingly Scholarship Fund established at Tipton County Foundation

The Tipton County Foundation is honored to announce the creation of the Daniel J. and Mary Agnes Mattingly Scholarship Fund, established through a bequest at the time of Dan Mattingly’s passing. This scholarship will support continuing education for a graduating senior from any Tipton County high school, with preference given to students who have spent time in the foster care system or are no longer living with their birth parents. Dan and Tommie’s lifelong dedication to education and philanthropy will continue to impact the lives of local students for generations to come.

Dan Mattingly was a founding Board Member of the Tipton County Foundation and a long-time donor who supported numerous charitable causes. Born on March 20, 1921, on a farm in southeast Tipton County, he was a proud Tipton native, U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII, farmer, and businessman. He served on the Board of Directors for First Federal Savings and Loan (later STAR Bank) for 28 years and was actively involved in the Rotary Club and Tipton Elks. His passion for community service and education was evident throughout his life.

Dan’s beloved wife, Mary Agnes “Tommie” Mattingly, preceded him in death in 2015. Together, they raised a family rooted in strong values of kindness and generosity. Dan was known for his wit, storytelling, and ability to uplift those around him. Tommie was a talented artist. Their legacy lives on not only through their family and community impact but also through this scholarship that will open doors for students in need.

“Dan was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to improving the world around him,” said Mark Baird, Executive Director of the Tipton County Foundation. “This scholarship embodies his spirit of giving and will provide invaluable opportunities for students facing hardships.”

These awards will be granted annually, ensuring that Dan and Tommie’s legacy continues to support education and opportunity in Tipton County.
