Penelope R. “Penni” Powell, age 67 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness. She was born September 29, 1955, in Tipton, the daughter of Delvin and Billie (Gammon) Mahaney. Penni was a 1973 graduate of Tipton High School before attending Purdue University. She retired in 2018 from Red Gold where she worked as an account manager for over 20 years. Penni also formerly worked in production at Airfoil Textron in Elwood for 15 years. She married Jack M. Powell on August 26, 1978, and they shared 39 years of marriage together before his passing in 2017.
Penni formerly attended Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton. She loved animals and especially cherished her dog, “Gracie”. Penni and Jack were very active with Little League Baseball for many years and served in regional positions in the organization. She also enjoyed flowers and dining out with family and friends. More than anything, Penni loved her family and will be remembered as a devoted wife, daughter, and sister.
Penni’s family includes her mother, Billie Mahaney of Tipton; 3 siblings, Lisa (Dennis) Hobbs of Tipton, Joy (Andy) Boruff of Tipton, and Chris (Nikki) Mahaney of Tipton; 2 step-children, Ryan Powell and Amber (Trevor) Ball; several step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews she adored. Penni was preceded in death by her father, Delvin Mahaney; husband, Jack Powell; and niece, Amy Lynch.
A funeral service celebrating Penni’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023 (their wedding anniversary) at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with family friend, Rich Leavell officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral at the funeral home. The burial will take place at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
