Described as having a “heart of gold” and that he would give his last dollar to someone in need, Davy Sandman’s untimely death took the community by surprise.

When his sister, Jennifer, was honored with the guardianship of his sons, Carson and Austin, she wanted to do something to help her broken heart and to help the boys. “When my brother passed, so many people were there and helped us in so many ways. I felt like I needed to do something to make my heart happy, even though it was broken. And, I wanted my nephews to see that ‘giving’ is as great as getting,” Jennifer said.

So, she, along with Davy’s boys, decided to do “Share the Joy Scavenger Hunt.”

“We want to spread some joy in Tipton,” she said. “Local businesses donate items and we hide them somewhere in Tipton. We give hints throughout the hunt on our Facebook page, Share the Joy Scavenger Hunt.”

For instance, during the “Tis the Season” event in downtown Tipton, three gifts were hidden, and hints were given out on Facebook.

The way it works is that they put some candy, along with a flyer explaining the Scavenger Hunt, and then they put a gift certificate to one of the participating retailers. The container is hidden, hints are placed on Facebook and when the container is found, the finder will call or text Jennifer.

If spreading joy is what it’s all about, Jennifer has found a fun way to do it. Anyone interested in donating to this fun event can do so by contacting Jennifer via the Facebook page.
