OXFORD — Tipton’s high school boys golf team went from playing on what of the state’s best golf courses to playing on one of the more poorly designed courses in a week’s time.The Blue Devils played in the spring preview tournament on Saturday, May 4 on a long and challenging Prairie View Golf Club – the home of the IHSAA state finals – to playing in the Hoosier Conference on a short and challenging Oak Grove course in the Hoosier Conference match on Saturday.At Prairie View, golfers are often punished for not hitting the ball straight and down the middle of the fairway.

Tri-Central’s varsity baseball and softball teams played in the Hoosier Heartland Conference tournaments on Monday night, and both teams went 1-1.TC’s baseball team opened the tournament with an 11-4 victory over Taylor.

TIPTON — Seniors Emerson Merrell and Isabella Browning led the charge as Tipton defeated visiting Elwood 9-3 last Wednesday.It was Tipton’s second game of the night as the Lady Devils edged Northwestern 9-8 in a Hoosier Conference East Division contest.Merrell was solid in the pitching circle, giving up three runs – two earned – on nine hits.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Senior Cooper Altherr was a double winner in last Friday night’s Hoosier Conference track and field meet, while fellow senior Jackson Money also earned a first-place medal.Cooper swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.26 seconds.

SHERIDAN — Freshman Layla Baldwin got it done in the circle and at the plate to lead Tri-Central’s varsity softball team to a 10-1 Hoosier Heartland Conference victory over Sheridan here last Thursday.Baldwin pitched a complete game three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking just two.

SHERIDAN — Tri-Central struggled both at the plate and in the field in last Thursday’s Hoosier Heartland Conference game against Sheridan here.The Trojans had more errors (6) than hits (5) and ended up losing 10-0 in 6 innings to the Blackhawks.Tri-Central then turned around and played Clinton Central in another HHC contest.

The Tipton High School baseball team hopes to put last week’s results way behind them.
