FORT WAYNE – The Indiana State Police is mourning the loss of one of its own as a result of a vehicle crash incident which occurred on Interstate 69 south of Auburn. The crash claimed the life of Master Trooper James R. Bailey, 50, of Auburn, who served with the Indiana State Police for more than 15 years.
The Tipton County Planning Board to information presented for a public hearing on the Waiting Place subdivision. Phil and Martha Heron are wanting to subdivide their property so they can build a second separate house for their retirement home. The property is located at 1285 S. St. Rd. 213 in Tipton County.
• Kylee D. Williams, 29, Elwood, was arrested Thursday, March 2, at j11:41 p.m. by Tipton County officers for Criminal Conversion, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Narcotic Drug and Legend Drug Deception. She was taken to Tipton County Jail and later released on the pretrial release program.
1983 • Dane “Pat” Nash was officially appointed by Gov. Robert Orr to serve as judge of Tipton Circuit Court.
Members of the Solid Waste Management Board met to take care of needed maintenance items. Members signed last month's and this month's minutes and claims. The members approved and signed the Salary Ordinance. There were no changes to the Ordinance.
Tipton Common Council member Rick Chandler gave an update to Tipton Common Council from the Tipton Municipal Utility Board meeting. There have been several power outages in the past couple of weeks and three of those were attributed to squirrels shorting out a power line. The linemen quickly worked to get the power restored after they found out about the issue.
Tipton City Board of Works members Tom Dolezal, Rick Rippy and Nathan Kring listened to a proposal by Matt Skiba, Tipton High School Band Director at their latest meeting. Skiba informed the board that the high school would be hosting a drum corps group of approximately 200 members for three to four weeks. The band members will be practicing for approximately 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Elwood Police Department is getting the final police cars their fleet fitted with bullet-proof windshields. This comes after the death of Officer Noah Shahnavaz, who was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop in the overnight hours of July 31, 2022.
