Tipton FFA celebrates National FFAWeek

Tipton High School’s FFA chapter joined FFA chapters around the country to celebrate National FFAWeek last week. They were among the more than 850,000 members who participated in National FFA Week activities at local, state, and national levels. It’s a week designed to embrace more than 95 years of FFA traditions while looking forward to the organization's future.

A funeral mass for Roger Lee Ashby, age 72, of Elwood, will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 24, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood.

Stellantis UAW-represented employees to receive 2022 Profit Sharing Payments

Auburn Hills, Mich. - As a result of the company’s financial performance in 2022, Stellantis announced today that the eligible profit sharing amount of $14,760 will be paid to UAW-represented employees on March 10, 2023. Actual payments will be based on individual compensated hours. Approximately 40,500 employees are eligible to receive the payment.

Music students from 15 schools to participate in Indianapolis School Music Festival

INDIANAPOLIS – Students from 15 local Indianapolis schools will participate in the sixth annual Indianapolis School Music Festival on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16 hosted at Arsenal Technical High School. The Indianapolis School Music Festival serves local instrumental and vocal music students through a collaboration with Music for All.

Fair connects students with community resources

KOKOMO – Where do you go if you need to see a doctor? What if you need food, or a copy of your birth certificate? Students found answers to those questions and more at Tuesday’s Indiana University Kokomo Health and Resource Fair. “This allows our students to see how all agencies in the community work together for the greater good,” said Stephanie Pratt, clinical assistant professor of nursing, who served on the planning committee for the event.

A funny lady with a funny story

Diana Shulman, also known as D'yan Forest, is a multi-talented performer; she sings and plays several musical instruments. But, says the Association of Mature American Citizens, the Guinness Book of Records picked her for being the world’s oldest professional comedienne. At the age of 88, she’s been at it for more than 20 years. When is she going to retire? As she put it in a recent TV appearance, “it ain’t over until the fat lady is dead.”

Library on road to renovations

Library board members continue to move forward on planned renovations. The Construction Design Release was approved by the Department of Homeland Security. Library Director Jason Fields stated all the documents were on the library board's website. The Request for Proposals was due Feb. 10. One proposal was submitted from Meyer Najem, a construction firm out of Fishers. This firm recently completed the library's lighting project.

Boys and Girls Club gets better and better

Where have the past 30 years gone is a question many ask. Yes, the Boys and Girls Club of Tipton County is celebrating 30 years of service to the community's children. Annually, the club's personnel host a luncheon to recognize businesses, organizations and individuals who have contributed financially, in-kind, and/or services to benefit the children of Tipton County.
