State budget cuts affect each Indiana county

With the State of Indiana facing a monetary shortfall, the county governments are some of the entities that take the hit. County Engineer Phil Beer II stated the county could only seek up to a million dollars of matching community crossing grants instead of the usual $1.5 million. Beer and County Highway Superintendent Bret Morris are hoping to receive enough grant money to be able to complete work on County Road 600 South, and the rest of the county subdivisions. Beer remarked, “We’ll get less than we thought we would.”

Tipton Trails update

Tipton Trails had their monthly meeting to discuss the current projects the group is looking to check into. Chair Committeeman Steve Raber gave an update on the Kirkendall property which is located near the Howard/Tipton County line on the west side of U.S. 931. Raber noted that Tipton County Surveyor Jason Henderson and contractor Mike Terry are working together to lay out the first stage of the trail system there.
