GOSHEN — Tipton’s Caleb Farr and Cooper Altherr earned trips to this Saturday’s 120th annual IHSAA boys track and field state finals.Farr placed second in the pole vault, equaling his school-record height of 15-feet, 3-inches at last Thursday’s Goshen Regional.

GASTON — Monday turned out to be a gloomy day in more ways than one for Tri-Central’s varsity baseball team.Storms that passed through the state on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night left water standing on Wes-Del’s baseball diamond forced play to be pushed back from 10 to 11 a.m.
DELPHI — A seven-run fourth inning propelled the host Oracles to a 17-4 Class 2A Delphi Sectional semifinal victory over Tipton last Tuesday.Tipton’s Emerson Merrell and Delphi’s Lexi Miller were involved in a pitcher’s dual through three innings.

GREENTOWN — Tipton’s varsity baseball team came up short in last Wednesday’s opening round of the Class 2A Eastern Sectional here.The Blue Devils used a three-run rally in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead over Alexandria.

KOKOMO — Cooper Altherr and Caleb Farr hurdled and vaulted their way to sectional championships at Walter Cross Field here on Thursday.Altherr remained undefeated the 110-meter high and 300-meter hurdles by dominating both races at the Kokomo Boys Track and Field Sectional.

DELPHI — Emerson Merrell pitched a three-hitter and Tipton shutout Seeger 10-0 in 5 innings in Monday night’s opening game of the Class 2A Delphi Sectional.While Merrell provided the dominance in the circle, Lacey Bitner and Isabella Browning provided the pop at the plate.

PINETO — For the third straight season, the Cowan Blackhawks have ended Tri-Central’s varsity softball season at the sectional.Although the Lady Trojans outhit the Blackhawks 6-4, they were unable to come up with timely hits and also committed three errors.
ELWOOD — Tipton and Elwood went into the tail end of the season with three wins each and met each other here last Wednesday with each opening to get a feel-good verdict.But a pair of two-out, two-run singles by the Blue Devils’ Evan Coe and Nick Nasser produced all the offense needed for the visitors to notch a 5-1 victory.“Those were big hits by Coe and Nasser for us,” said Tipton coach Andy Hussong.

ELWOOD — Alexandria’s varsity girls tennis team pulled off a sectional five-peat last week.The Tigers trailed Frankton 2-1 in last Thursday’s championship match of the Elwood Girls Tennis Sectional.
