Cherry’s walkoff single gives Trojans 4-3 win day after 5-4 walk-off loss at Clinton Central SHARPSVILLE — Nate Cherry’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Tri-Central a 4-3 Hoosier Heartland Conference victory over Sheridan here last Thursday evening. It was TC’s first conference win in six years and came a night after the Trojans (7-4, 1-3 HHC) saw Clinton Central’s Owen Kocher hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 victory.

Altherr, Long earn double blues; Lady Devils’ Ankrum wins high jump Cooper Altherr and Evan Long won two events each to propel the Tipton High School boys varsity track and field team to a second-place finish in its own invitational on Friday night. Sydney Duncan swept the throwing events to lead Frankton’s Lady Eagles to the runner-up finish at the same Tipton Invitational.

Although the softball and baseball sectionals do not start until the last full week of May, the Indiana High School Athletic Association conducted the draw on Sunday and released the match-ups back-to-back pairings shows.

The Tipton High School varsity baseball team capped off a tough week with a 13-4 victory at Clinton Prairie on Friday. The Blue Devils’ week began with a heart-breaking 4-3 loss at Alexandria last Monday.

SHARPSVILLE — Tri-Central’s Lady Trojans overcame deficits of 9-2 and 10-6 to defeat Sheridan 17-10 in a wild finish here last Thursday evening. The victory was the Trojans’ first in the Hoosier Heartland Conference and first of the season.

The Tipton High School girls varsity tennis team once again took to the road last Tuesday and Wednesday, dropping matches at Frankton and Lapel. On Tuesday, the Lady Devils were defeated 4-1 by the Frankton Eagles.

PERU — Tipton’s high school boys golf team placed ninth in a stacked 21-team Hall of Fame Tournament played at Rock Hollow G.C. here on Saturday.
