Butch and Carolyn Moreland moved to Tipton as newlyweds on Nov. 1, 1964. Butch lived in Hobbs before moving his freshman year of high school to Holton, Ind., where he graduated in the Class of 1962.
Butch and Carolyn have been pillars of the community for decades. Their three children (Monica, Lance, & Heath) all graduated from Tipton High School. They have granddaughters (Madison, Whitney and Elizabeth) that also graduated from Tipton County High Schools.
Butch retired from the Tipton Post Office after more than 32 years of service. Beyond the countless seasons of sports he coached across all levels, he was also on the Tipton School Board when the expansion connecting the middle school and high school was approved and built in the 90s.
He is a member of the Elks Lodge and previously served as Exalted Ruler. It is there where Carolyn, his wife of near 60 years, began her cooking and catering story. Though no longer cooking for the Elks Lodge, Carolyn and her crew have catered events all over Central Indiana. Fifty years later, Butch and Carolyn are still catering. Not because of the money, but because of the people they’ve met along the way.
In years past, Butch served on the Tipton City Zoning Board of Appeals. Carolyn spent many years as a 4-H group leader and is still an active member of Tri-Kappa Sorority. They will both tell you that one of the best things about living in a community like Tipton is the memories you make with the people.
To this day, Butch and Carolyn find a way to be available and help wherever, whenever, as often as they can.
