GOLDSMITH – Jerry A. Dell, 81, of Goldsmith, passed quietly at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Witham Hospital in Lebanon.
He was born in Tipton on February 26, 1942, to Clifford Fern and Margaret Elizabeth (Lee) Dell. On February 21, 1964, he married Karen Bauer. The couple enjoyed 59 years of marriage together before Jerry’s passing.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Army for six years. He drove a semi for more than 50 years before retiring and going to work for the Indiana Department of Transportation. Jerry retired from the state in 2008.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed pitching horseshoes for many years. Matter of fact, he was very good at pitching horseshoes and was the AHPA State Champion for four years in a row. When the weather was nice and there were no sporting events or a horseshoe to be tossed, Jerry loved to ride his motorcycle.
Jerry had a deep love for his family. All of Jerry’s boys played sports, and as the grandkids got older they also played sports. Jerry made it a point to be in the stands cheering on all of his family when possible. He was very proud of his boys and their families.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen; three sons, Brian Dell and wife Kathy of Tipton, Todd Dell and wife Stacie of Tetersburg and Kyle Dell and wife Stephanie of Tipton; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Adam, McKayla, Jeremy, Jamey, Amber, Andrea and Brody; along with five greatgrandchildren, Kaidan, Kennedy, Raelynn, Hadleigh and Tinzleigh with another on the way in June; and his stepgrandchildren, Emily McCollum, Austin McCollum and Andrew White.
Jerry was the last living sibling. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings, Norma, William, Alice, Leatrice, Richard, Treva, Billie Jo, Roy, Neita, Harry, Linda and Markitta.
Funeral services for Jerry took place on Monday, March 27, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Logan Westrick officiating. Burial followed at Tetersburg Cemetery.
