Diana C. Shupperd, age 78, a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Diana was born in Elwood on July 23, 1944, to the late Bert and Dorothy (Corbett) Leisure. On August 10, 1969, she married the love of her life Billy Shupperd and they shared 36 years of marriage together.
Diana attended Wendell L. Willkie High School. She loved children and decided to work in childcare. For more than 30 years, Diana was honored to care for and help mold many children within the community; many remained close to her and always called her Aunt Di. Diana loved being outdoors especially when it came to fishing, camping, gardening, and bird watching. She was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and always enjoyed watching Nascar. Traveling anywhere south to a beach so she could relax and sunbathe was always her vacation of choice. She would never miss spending time with family or hanging out with the girls. Diana was known for staying up until wee in the morning playing our family card game; she was most definitely the supervisor of the team “misbehavin!” Those who knew Diana know that her family was the true joy in her life.
Diana is survived by her daughter, Angela Head of Elwood; bonus daughter, Ashley (Bruce Minnear) Phillips of Elwood; her inseparable great nephew, Ethin Phillips of Elwood; great-niece, Alexiah Phillips; great-nephew, Brinley Phillips of Elwood; sisters, Kathy Cooper of Elwood, and Debi Frazee of Elwood; best friend of 67 years, Shirley Henderson (Fetch) of Kissimmee, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Diana was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee Shupperd; parents, Bert and Dorothy Leisure; brothers, Don Leisure and Danny Leisure; and sisters, Rose Goens, Beverly Gilley, Linda Short, and Sue McPhearson.
