Rebecca S. “Becky” Aspiazu, age 90 of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Noblesville surrounded by her family after a long, full life. She was born December 12, 1932 in Carmel, Indiana, the daughter of William H. and Velma I. (Balser) Riffe. Becky was a 1950 graduate of Windfall High School before serving her country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. She last worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Greentown Post Office for 14 years and retired in 1992. Becky also formerly worked as a mail carrier in Elwood for five years and at the Marion Veterans Administration as an office clerk for several years.
Becky was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood and an oblate of St. Benedict at St. Meinrad, Indiana. She enjoyed keeping busy all of her life, and especially enjoyed watching her favorite shows on television including Fox News and EWTN. She formerly enjoyed crocheting. Becky was a proud veteran and member of the Elwood American Legion. More than anything, Becky was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Becky’s family includes 4 children, Timothy M. Aspiazu of Tipton, Martin J. (Bonnie) Aspiazu of Tipton County, Jeffrey B. Aspiazu of Hemphill, TX, and Debora D. “Debbie” Norman of Noblesville; 3 grandchildren, Michael Aspiazu, Stefanie (Ryan) Hulce, and William “Clay” Aspiazu; a great-grandson, Brantley Hulce; and several nieces and nephews. Becky was preceded in death by her parents; son who passed away at age 18, Vincent M. Aspiazu; brother, Leon “Johnse” Riffe; and half-brother, Ward Riffe.
A funeral mass will take place at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St. Joseph Church in Elwood with Father Dennis Goth officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood prior to the funeral mass.
